Piano Day at Niebo and Jazdów

In 2015, an outstanding pianist, producer and composer Nils Frahm came up with the idea that March 29th should become a worldwide celebration of the piano. Hania Raniszewska, like Nils Frahm, is a pianist herself and for the second time she organizes the Polish edition of Piano Day. She explains that the date chosen by Nils Frahm is not a coicidence. March 29th is the 88th day of the year, and the full piano keyboard has 88 keys. On the website you will find a list of concerts as part of this year’s celebration. The events start on March 22nd and end on April 15th and are planned not only in Great Britain, Germany and Poland, but also eg. in the Netherlands, Belgium, Portugal, Denmark, Ireland, Peru, Luxembourg, Canada, USA and Korea.

Two events will take place in Warsaw. On March 29th, Andrzej Karałow and Jerzy Przeździecki will perform at Otwarta Pracownia in Jazdów (Jazdów 3/6). They will premiere their latest album “Wir”. Secondly, the main event will take place on April 8th at NIEBO (21 Nowy Świat St.). Who will perform? Amongst others: Luke Howard, for the first time in Poland, a world-class Australian pianist associated with the prestigious Mercury KX label (Ólafur Arnalds, Lambert); Hior Chronik – ambient producer of Greek origin, associated with the Berlin based label K7 Records (pictured above) and Pianohooligan – Piotr Orzechowski, an excellent young pianist who will perform the music from the recently released album “24 Preludes & Improvisations”.

The full list of artists will be announced until the end of the week. To ease the wait I made a mixtape, where the piano reigns. Happy listening and happy Piano Day!
