A big platform has recently been erected in a park next to the Ujazdowski Castle. From its top, you will have a possibility to watch the life of birds.
It was designed by Anna Siekierska and Maciej Siuda so that it fit among the trees. It was a complicated operation but it was worth the effort. You can enter it only during weekends (Saturdays and Sundays 10 AM-8 PM) and during workshops, meetings, and field observations organized by the Jazdów City Garden. There is enough room for twelve people gathered at the same time. After dark, the platform will be softly illuminated. “Since you are aware that somebody actually lives in the trees, the moment you climb the platform you might have a feeling as if you were entering someone’s house,” says Anna Siekierska.
It is the 4th edition of the project which observes the neighbourhood of the Ujazdowski Castle. “Usually around such institutions like ours, there is a tendency to create a sculpture park. We didn’t want to make use of the space in such an obvious way. We have been testing our surroundings which for sure will undergo some changes in the foreseeable future however, they will be slight. We are fascinated with our park which is a sculpture itself,” says Małgorzata Ludwisiak, a director of the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art.
During the first edition of the Jazdów City Garden project, the Centre for Contemporary Art was mapping its surroundings. The second edition brought tiny architectural interventions such as an alternative wooden route created in the park. Last year’s edition was about sport and recreation. This time we will observe nature: birds, animals, and soil. “We focus on nature,” says a curator of the project, Anna Czaban.
The Jazdów City Garden project is realized in a cooperation with the neighbouring Botanical Garden. Dendrological researches have already been conducted and a map of tree stand has been prepared. The employees of the garden will walk us through this area presenting it in many different ways.
