New Museum of Life under Communism

New Museum of Life under Communism
Muzeum Życia w PRL

Another key to understanding Warsaw.

The Museum of Life under Communism could not dream of a better location as this one. When we are sitting by the desk of the creators of new Warsaw, we can admire through the window what they created –  the heart of the Marszałkowska Housing District.

Don’t look for the museum in one of these spacious premises with huge windows next to the big square as it is located above KFC (entrance through Piękna Street). However, such space seems to be sufficient. If you happened to be at the DDR Museum in Berlin you know that little space does not limit you from creating an unusual and versatile exhibition.

The Museum of Life under Communism (former “The Charm of PRL”) moved in here from PZO in Kamionek. The exposition is not ready yet however, you can come and visit. In the middle of February, the entire exhibition should be fixed. There will be an additional room – a cafe called Antyczna overlooking Konstytucji Square where you will be able to sip some coffee or eat. Moreover, there is a kindergarten in the making. It will be a room full of toys, where children under the supervision of animators could play and learn games from the pre-tablet era.

We also have here reconstructed flats of an exemplary member of the intelligentsia and a worker, with a kitchen full of objects from the PRL era. You can come and touch. There is also a small cinema room with propaganda movies, for example, the one about Konstytucji Square made a day after it had been opened.

There is a little bit of everything: packages, cassettes, hair dryers and vacuum cleaners, clothes and sports equipment.
