If you like markets as we do, you will be like a kid in a candy store here.
The Słomczyn Market is one of the biggest marketplaces near Warsaw. Forty hectares, over one and a half thousand stalls. Quite impressive.
It is mainly a car market, but you can buy here everything – furniture, toys, clothes, plants, bikes and farm machines. However, you have to be patient, haggle and above all get up on Sunday very early in the morning and turn up at around 6 – 7 AM at the latest. You can get there by bus or a car (parking 5 PLN).
We have a new excuse to visit Słomczyn these days because our friends have recently bought one of the gastro bars – Bar Maluch. Jola Sauer and Paweł Bartulo “Łajzol” (they run Królestwo WWA at the Ochota Theatre, Paweł is known as JWP and is a co-founder of Jetlagz) are perfect for this place. Music, grill, beer for 5 PLN, customers just love them. We visit this place after shopping to eat żur śląski (the Silesian sour rye soup) and to listen to some local gossips. Exceptional atmosphere.
The Słomczyn Market, near Grójec, open from Saturday from 6 PM to Sunday at 2 PM, www.gielda-slomczyn.pl. Take a bus from the Warszawa Zachodnia railway station at 6:15 AM and 7:15 PM (return at 12 PM).
