In this newly opened venue in Muranów world revolves around yeast.

There are such places that brighten up the district. Places with neighbourly atmosphere, where we drop by on our way home or arrange an unpretentious meeting with a friend. 

You will not miss this place in the evening, for sure. A glowing ball lamp on a facade will guide you and right after the entrance, just behind the curtain, you will be welcomed by an excellent installation consisting of colorful balls. This installation gives the place some urban vibes and creates a very cozy atmosphere. Moreover, this smell in the air! You will immediately know that something delicious is baking.

The whole family stands behind the success of Drożdż. Mateusz Czuban came up with an idea of a place that specialises in pizza. Previously he had been working at Mąka i Woda and Sexy Duck. The interior was designed by his brother Tomasz and Zofia Kurczych. They are both architects. Marta Czuban is responsible for place identity. She was inspired by the fermentation of yeasts. The whole project was executed by Mateusz and Tomasz with the help of their father. What will you eat at Drożdż? The motto of the place says pizza, beer, and bread. And as you see, from morning till evening all revolves here around yeast.

For breakfast, which starts at 8 AM, you can order different panuzzo sandwiches or sweet pizzetta with ricotta. At lunchtime, smaller pizza and soups and in the evening when you are hungrier try more classic pizza with various ingredients and drink a beer (soon available as the venue is still waiting for an alcohol license). Moreover, you can taste salads (the one with potatoes and truffle won our heats) and homemade desserts. 

Everything here is simple and delicious. Neighbours have already appreciated the venue but it is worth visiting the place even when you live in other districts. Let’s hope for more such places that will illuminate the forgotten facades.

A young team from Stalowa Street bakes one of the best bread in town. They have recently opened also a cafe. 

We are currently enjoying stunning autumn in Warsaw, and Stalowa Street in Praga takes us back to the times of cobblestones, tenement houses, bricks, and beautiful yet not renovated shop window displays. This is where Rano, one of the most popular craft bakeries, is located. Is this location a random choice? We are asking Weronika Nogańska and Mateusz Karkoszka, the founders of Rano. 

“We lived in Targowa Street and we have just fallen in love with Stalowa. A year ago after the Easter holidays, we saw a rental ad. I was the first one who called and we just got it!”, recalls Weronika. 

Weronika and Mateusz, have been working in gastronomy since they remember. She specialises in pastries and polished her skills at Lokal Bakery in Katowice. “We have three different types of bread in our regular offer: wheat, wheat with oats, rye with linseed and sunflower seeds but on Saturday we additionally sell 100% rye bread. We make our products from flour from the Babalskis and Ciechanów but we also cooperate with Polski Młyn since we need flour on time and with different companies, timely delivery turns out to be problematic sometimes “, says Weronika. 

Last week they have added coffee to their offer. The place was renovated by Mateusz with help from Weronika’s father. Everything turned out perfect. The interior is simple yet cozy. “What we like most is contact with people. We already have our regulars”, says Mateusz. And indeed, there are a lot of customers. We recommend visiting this place early in the morning. The bakery opens at 8 AM.

In the cafe section, you can eat sourdough chocolate cake, bostocks, brioches with pearl sugar and hopefully soon, Chausson aux Pommes, which is in the test phase. With time Rano wants to expend its offer adding sandwiches and various types of egg dishes. Anyone who remembers Mateusz Karkoszka from Kieliszki na Próżnej knows that it will be something simple yet excellent. We just can’t wait!

It is currently the best, laid-back destination with Polish cuisine with a classic twist.

Oh, how we have missed this kind of restaurant where one could drink and eat an unpretentious meal. Lokalna Bistronomia is a place with a homelike atmosphere: wooden tables, dim lights, open kitchen, and friendly service. This perfect combination you will find at the back of Praga Koneser Center in Nieporęcka Street, near Skamiejka. What do they offer there?

And here comes the best part: Warsaw delicacies which you will clearly notice when reading a menu written in the Warsaw dialect. There is a herring called Katolik (with marinated beetroot, onion, bread crisps – we have not eaten such a good one in a long time!), sour rye soup with smoked bacon or the Różycki tripes. As for flour dishes: pyzy (potato dumplings), śluski kląskie (Silesian dimpled dumplings – little sips of heaven!). For the main course, we recommend pork chop called Poniatoszczak, gołąbki (cabbage leaves stuffed with meat and rice) and duck leg. Everything sounds familiar but is prepared with a little twist. From time to time, you will be surprised with some addition or sprinkle (popcorn from buckwheat groats). Needless to say, everything is delicious and offered at reasonable prices. Additionally, you can have a glass of wine, vodka, and Maryensztadt craft beer.

Krzysztof Chełchowski is in charge here. He has been in the gastronomy business for 20 years now and he comes from Praga. “We have been dreaming of such a familiar place with good Warsaw cuisine. We haven’t even particularly thought of Praga however, it is the place where we have found our perfect venue. We immediately felt that was it”, he recalls.

Now he is thinking of a new step – building an outdoor garden. “Expect more summer-like tastes: salads, cold soups”, says Krzysztof. “I am also dreaming about a journey into childhood to bring back some tastes like mortadella in bread crumbs coating. However, for now, let’s see how our menu is received”, he declares.
